Recruitment and development

Bringing young people into the construction industry

Lovell was closely involved in developing the Construction and Built Environment Diploma, which was introduced in 2008 to help recruit school leavers with appropriate skills into the construction industry.

As part of its well-established Working with Schools programme, Lovell supports students aged 14 to 19 who are studying for the diploma. Illustrated talks on modern construction techniques and environmental issues are complemented with site visits and work experience.

Recruiting graduates early

At Morgan Ashurst, graduate recruitment begins early in a student’s university life. Undergraduates are offered 12-month placements within the group’s Construction Division quickly become part of the team.

Each student is trained in safety, health and environment, pre-contract and planning issues, before being given practical experience in the construction and commercial aspects of the business. Throughout the training, they receive support from Morgan Ashurst’s specialist graduate and trainee development advisors.

Learning together and sharing best practice

Transferring knowledge and expertise from one division to another is our great strength. The Morgan Sindall Development Programme provides managers from all divisions with the opportunity to learn together and share best practice. A series of two-day residential courses held throughout the year cover topics such as individual effectiveness, team leadership and improving business performance.
