Morgan Sindall’s Norwich office recently held a ‘Green Dragons’ Den’ event, inviting people from the local area to showcase their innovative ideas for sustainable construction.
The Green Dragons’ Den event was set up by Morgan Sindall alongside local organisations Build Norfolk and BEST East. Taking place in September 2012 at the Pennoyer Centre in Pulham St Mary, the final event featured seven finalists, each showcasing their ideas for new services, products, concepts and materials for sustainable construction. Each finalist pitched their idea to a select panel of ‘dragons’, who awarded The Limecrete Company Ltd’s unique Hempcrete spray system the top prize. This system enables flexible, breathable, insulating and sustainable material to be applied to almost any building, including new build and retro-fit. All materials used in the creation are entirely sourced in the local area, adding to the impressive low carbon aspect of the product.
Morgan Sindall is constantly seeking to contribute to local communities, and one way of achieving this is to provide support to local businesses. Build Norfolk and BEST East are organisations with which Morgan Sindall regularly works to build a strong local supply chain, and both were keen to help develop and set up the Green Dragons’ Den event. The competition stirred up great interest from regional businesses and attracted a number of applications which were whittled down to the best seven.
The finalists pitched their products to a select panel of judges, led by Morgan Sindall senior design manager Stuart Thompson, and were rigorously grilled in true Dragons’ Den style. Each contender presented an innovative product or idea, clearly indicating that interest in local sustainable construction remains high.
Within a week of the final event, Myles Yollap from the Limecrete Company came to Morgan Sindall’s Norwich office to discuss the potential use of their product on future projects.
