Lovell secures multi-million pound Scottish social housing scheme

Morgan Sindall Group’s affordable housing division Lovell has been selected by West Lothian Council to deliver a new-build social housing contract valued at £45 million.

Under the contract, Lovell will build 545 council homes for social rent at towns in West Lothian, including Whitburn, Bathgate and Livingston, over a 30-month period. Construction work is set to start in January 2011.

Lovell has also been chosen as a contractor on two affordable housing frameworks in Scotland, valued at £210 million. It has been appointed by Glasgow City Council for the second phase of redevelopment of the Maryhill Locks site. The framework, valued at £75 million, runs for a three-year period and involves the development of up to 700 new homes. Lovell has also secured a position on a £135 million framework across Scotland’s central belt. The framework, set up by Places for People, the property management, development and regeneration business, aims to deliver up to 1,500 new homes over a four-year period.

“Lovell is a market leader in the affordable housing sector, offering the full range of services required by clients from new-build to planned and responsive maintenance,” says Paul Smith, chief executive of Morgan Sindall Group plc. “These appointments further expand our business in the Scottish market and we look forward to working closely with all three clients.”
