Lovell starts work on £65 million Openshaw housing scheme

Lovell, Morgan Sindall’s affordable housing and regeneration business, has started work on the first phase of a major new housing development in the Toxteth Street neighbourhood of Openshaw in east Manchester.

The £65 million scheme is being carried out by Lovell in partnership with urban regeneration company New East Manchester, Adactus Housing Association and PRP Architects. Designed to represent a modern interpretation of traditional terraced streets, the development comprises a range of 390 two- and three-storey townhouses, 36 two-bedroom apartments and six bungalows. Secure parking, traffic calming measures and local amenities have also been incorporated into the plans.

The first phase will consist of 83 homes including 65 two-, three- and four-bedroom houses and 18 two-bedroom apartments. The houses will be a mixture of private housing available for purchase through Lovell and social housing available for rent through Adactus Housing Association.

The first homes at Toxteth Street are due for completion in Autumn 2008.
