Morgan Ashurst secures £44 million BSF scheme to build new Devon college

Morgan Sindall’s construction business Morgan Ashurst has won a £44 million contract to build a new college in Bideford, Devon.

Working for property consultants NPS on behalf of Devon County Council, Morgan Ashurst will replace the existing Bideford College with a brand new facility to house 1,800 students. Students at the college have been consulted on what they would like to see incorporated in the building’s design.

Devon County Council won the funding for the new school under the Government’s £2 billion Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme, which will rebuild or renew nearly every secondary school in England.

The new building will be a model for sustainability both in construction and environmental management and a demonstration project for science teaching.

Work on site will start this month (July) and the new school will be completed by August 2011.
