Morgan Sindall Group’s urban regeneration and property development division Muse Developments has been given the go-ahead by Doncaster Council to begin work on the town’s new Civic and Cultural Quarter.
Working as the council’s development partner, Muse will deliver the landmark £300 million scheme which will transform the Waterdale area of Doncaster town centre.
Work is due to start at the end of this month (November) on the first phase of the project which will include new civic offices, a state-of-the-art performance venue, a new public square and additional public realm, town centre homes, and a refurbished 850-space multi-storey car park. Phase one of the scheme is expected to be completed by summer 2013.
“The Civic and Cultural Quarter is a key element of a wider plan to regenerate Doncaster,” says Dan Needham, Muse Developments regional director. “It will act as a real boost to the town’s economy and encourage further regeneration.
“Delivery of the first phase will safeguard a significant number of construction jobs and will also deliver a highly energy-efficient new civic office building which will generate major savings for the council in annual running costs.”
