Success at SkillBuild for Morgan Sindall apprentices

Morgan Sindall apprentices Alicia Keefe, 18 and Callan Watkins, 21 have placed first and third respectively in the Painting and Decorating category at this year’s SkillBuild competition.

SkillBuild, run by CITB with the endorsement of WorldSkills, is the largest multi-trade competition in the country for construction trainees and apprentices. Alicia and Callan both triumphed at the Oxford and Cherwell Valley College competition on 23rd May, one of 15 regional SkillBuild heats now underway across England, Scotland and Wales.

The regional heats involve students working on test plans, which take a day to complete, with the highest scorers put forward to compete in the national final.

Speaking of her success in the Painting and Decorating category, Alicia said “I am thrilled at being awarded first place and would like to thank all the decorators who have taught me so far.”

Adding to this, Callan said “really happy with my result and am grateful Bree Lucas for all her teaching.”

Success at the SkillBuild regional heats gives entrants the opportunity to challenge for a place on the WorldSkills UK team and progress to compete at the 2015 WorldSkills competition in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
