We aspire to support all of our stakeholders in delivering a sustainable future, and to pursue activities that contribute to a more resilient society.

We invest resources from our construction work into our regeneration schemes to deliver long-term growth for the Group, while leaving lasting legacies for local communities. We seek to motivate and enable our people and our supply chain to build and regenerate to the highest standards, with a quality that will meet the demands of today and tomorrow.

There are some companies that have been on top of environmental, social and governance issues for a long time and you can almost sense their relief that investors are starting to take note. [...] Add in the green building revolution and a healthy dividend of 4 per cent and it’s a strong “buy”

We contribute to creating the fabric of our cities and communities. When we build homes for young families, breathe new life into a listed building by transforming it into a school or deliver a new state-of-the-art centre for a hospital, our goal is to leave more than just a building behind. We aim to carry out our work in a sustainable and sensitive manner, creating social value and protecting the environment along the way.

As a responsible business, we want to ensure that we are acting today to address the needs of tomorrow.

This means building resilience to be able to face the challenges that a changing world will bring, while recognising the opportunities that come from that change.

Within our sector and beyond, we are leaders in sustainability, with a history of transparency and openness about both our goals and how we will achieve them.

We believe in the power of collaboration. We work closely with our clients, joint venture partners and our supply chain, nurturing long-term, supportive relationships and helping us all realise the benefits of creating sustainably. Our approach helps us win new work and attract and retain a talented team of employees, and will ultimately secure our long-term success in a constantly shifting landscape.

Totally committed

Across the Group, we share five Total Commitments to our stakeholders. These are to protect and develop people, to improve the environment, to work together with our supply chain and to enhance communities. Our Commitments support the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

We use our Total Commitments as a framework for monitoring and measuring our performance as a responsible business, so that we can make sure we keep improving.

For each Commitment, we have set key performance indicators and short-, medium- and long-term targets. For our commitment to protect people, for example, we seek to reduce our accident rate each year and ensure employees are working within a certified health and safety management system.

We support the UN Sustainable Development Goals to ‘end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all’.

We consider these six goals to be those where we can have the biggest impact in line with our Total Commitments.
