Slough Urban Renewal

Slough Urban Renewal (SUR) is a Property Partnership between Slough Borough Council and Morgan Sindall Investments.

Slough has seen an increase in its population, and with it, increasing demand for housing and school places. This drives SUR's approach to invigorate Slough through a broad range of leisure, housing, community and school projects.

With community consultation and thoughtfully planned regeneration, SUR have delivered and will continue to deliver more homes in Slough for both private sale and affordable rent.

As a partner in SUR, Morgan Sindall Investments is also delivering improvements and enhancements to the town’s schools and leisure centers, including the development of a 1,950 seat stadium and a multi-use floodlit synthetic sports pitch.

Collaboration for regeneration

SUR is committed to actively supporting the delivery of the Council’s strategic regeneration objectives, and is uniquely placed to optimise the socioeconomic impacts of development across the town.

Morgan Sindall Investments operates as a considerate developer, engaging in localism, sustainability, skills training and education, thereby fulfilling our Total Commitments to protecting and developing people, and enhancing communities.

We seek to add value through our Total Commitment to creating community benefits, which include working together with our local supply chain and contributing to employment opportunities and education in the local community.

In keeping with Morgan Sindall Group's Total Commitment to enhancing communities, we place Slough residents and businesses at the heart of our activities.

Community

SUR is unique in having a dedicated Community Benefits, Skills and Training Co-ordinator, Ged Humphries.

Ged engages with the Council, contractors, supply chain and third parties about planning and managing the SUR programme. She organises events and initiatives and both monitors and reports on all community activities. Her role encompasses a broad range of community engagement activities, including Careers fairs, Employer insight days, arranging work experience placements, co-ordinating apprenticeship vacancies, and School Mock Interview days.

Employment

By using recommended benchmarks approved by the CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) we continually strive to achieve targets around the following key employment and skills areas: Apprenticeships, Support for Schools & Colleges, Skills Development for the Existing Workforce, and Entry into Employment.

SUR is committed to long term economic growth in the local community, including by providing a range of workshops, careers fairs, employer insight days and work ready sessions. In 2017 and 2018 SUR sponsored Wexham Secondary School to deliver a BTEC Level 1 in Construction to 10 pupils with a zero drop out rate in year one.

25 new apprenticeships/training positions were created. We are actively involved in the Strategic Skills and Employment Group (SSEG) and our development activity is contributing to Outcome 4 of the Council’s Wellbeing Strategy, to deliver more high-quality homes for the people of Slough.

SUR promotes skills and training by securing apprenticeships within the supply chain and through engagement with the local community. Currently, the priority is employment in the construction sector, but in the longer term, SUR is aiming to creating training and local employment opportunities within projects once they are completed. By engaging with future operators or service providers to promote training and local employment wherever possible, SUR is also able to facilitate the provision of employment in the areas of leisure, retail and hospitality.
